Coleman Mach thermostat keeps going bad

Blank screens, blown fuses, repeated failures. You replace it, and a year later you're doing it again. It's a cycle nobody wants.

Relay clicking, AC won't cycle properly

You hear the relay clicking but the system won't start. Or it short-cycles on and off constantly. Especially frustrating in the middle of summer.

8-Series (8330)

Installation - about 30 minutes

  1. Turn off the breaker
  2. Remove old thermostat - photo the 9-pin connector wires and their labels
  3. Mount WalTech using the included template and screws
  4. Connect power: Pin 7 = +12V IN & OUT, Pin 8 = Ground IN & OUT, Pin 6 = Jumper from Pin 7
  5. Connect heaters to Pins 5, 4, 3, 1 (up to 4 heat zones - connect only what you have)
  6. Connect signal wire: Pin 15 = Purple signal wire from terminal #5
  7. Power on, select "Coleman 8 Series Multi Zone," and you're done

WalTech auto-detects your zones and starts reading temperatures from each one automatically.

Coleman Mach Two-Stage Single-Zone

WalTech Compatible

Older Coleman Mach systems that support two AC compressors on a single zone. They can run individually or together with a configurable stage gap. Uses two connectors: a 9-pin connector and a 3-pin connector for power, heating, cooling, and fan control.

Two-Stage

Installation - about 30 minutes

  1. Turn off the breaker
  2. Remove old thermostat - photo the 9-pin and 3-pin connector wires and their labels
  3. Mount WalTech using the included template and screws
  4. Connect power: Pin 7 = +12V (both connectors), Pin 8 = Ground (both connectors), Pin 6 = Jumper from Pin 7
  5. Connect heating: Pin 5 = Heat 1, Pin 4 = Heat 2, Pin 3 = Heat 3/B&O (if applicable)
  6. Connect cooling: Pin 2 = AC 1, Pin 1 = AC 2
  7. Connect fan: Pin 13 = High fan, Pin 14 = Low fan
  8. Connect freeze sensor: Pin 11 & Pin 15 (or jumper Pin 11 to Pin 15 if no freeze sensor)
  9. Power on, select "Coleman / Airxcel / Home Thermostat," configure your stages, and you're done

WalTech lets you set a stage gap (0-10) in settings. AC 1 starts first, then AC 2 kicks in after the delay.

WARNING: Do NOT connect LOW FAN on two-stage heat pump systems. This can damage the blower motor and is NOT covered under warranty.

FAQ

Coleman Mach Thermostat Replacement Questions

Can WalTech replace my Coleman Mach RV thermostat?

Yes. WalTech replaces Coleman Mach single-zone thermostats (both digital and analog), the 8-Series RV Comfort ZC multi-zone, and Coleman Mach two-stage systems. The only model not supported is the newer CAN bus multi-zone touchscreen.

Is Coleman Mach the same as Airxcel?

Yes. Airxcel acquired Coleman Mach. Both brands use identical wiring and the same WalTech configuration. If your thermostat says Coleman Mach or Airxcel, the installation is the same.

How does Coleman Mach wiring work?

Coleman Mach uses simple relay-based wiring. Each wire directly powers a specific component - AC compressor, heater, fan. You match each wire to the correct WalTech pin. WalTech uses a push-and-lock system - just push the wire in and it clicks. No crimping or stripping needed.

What is the Coleman Mach 8-Series (8330)?

The 8-Series (model 8330) is Coleman Mach's multi-zone thermostat. It uses a 9-pin connector with relay wiring for heaters plus one purple signal wire for AC and fan communication across zones. WalTech replaces it and auto-detects all connected zones - up to 4.

What is a Coleman Mach two-stage thermostat?

A two-stage Coleman Mach supports two AC compressors that can run individually or together. WalTech fully supports this - AC 1 turns on first, then AC 2 kicks in after a configurable delay (stage gap 0-10). You can set this in WalTech settings.

Why can't I connect Low Fan on a heat pump system?

On Coleman Mach heat pump systems, Low and High fan signals can energize at the same time, which can cause blower motor failure. The solution: connect both fan wires to the High Fan pin (Pin 13) using a wire nut, and cap off the original Low Fan wire. This ensures the system runs on High Fan only and protects the motor.

What is the freeze sensor and do I need one?

The freeze sensor prevents coil freezing on two-stage systems. If you have one, connect it to Pin 11 and Pin 15. If you don't have a freeze sensor, use a jumper wire to connect Pin 11 to Pin 15 - this tells WalTech everything is fine and prevents errors.

How do I tell the CAN bus from a compatible Coleman Mach?

The compatible Coleman Mach has analog sliders, green LCD, or basic switches - simple interface. The not compatible CAN bus is a full black touchscreen showing Zone 1/2/3/4, Cool/Electric Heat/Gas Heat/Fan buttons, and Climate/Settings tabs. If it looks like a tablet, it's the CAN bus model.

What is WalTech AI and how does it work?

WalTech AI is our built-in AI assistant. Instead of reading a manual, just tell WalTech AI what you need - "set my bedroom to 68," "what's Zone 2 temperature," or "turn on the fan." It understands plain English.

What is the WalTech Smart Hub?

WalTech doubles as a smart hub. Connect Mopeka propane tank sensors, Shelly smart plugs and relays, temperature and humidity sensors, and more. Monitor and control everything from the WalTech touch screen or the mobile app.

Do I need an electrician to install WalTech?

No. Coleman Mach wiring is straightforward relay-based - each wire goes to one pin. If you can use a screwdriver, you can do this. And if you get stuck, text us at 1-844-WALTECH and we'll walk you through it.

What is the best WiFi RV thermostat to replace a Coleman Mach?

WalTech Vision 2.0 is the most advanced WiFi RV thermostat available. It has dual-band WiFi (2.4 & 5 GHz), built-in cellular that auto-connects to AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon, a 3.5-inch color touch screen, WalTech AI assistant, pet safety alerts, and Smart Hub capabilities. It's a direct drop-in replacement for all compatible Coleman Mach models.

Does WalTech work without WiFi?

Yes. WalTech has a built-in cellular SIM card that auto-connects to AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon. Even without campground WiFi, you can control your thermostat remotely, receive pet safety alerts, and monitor your RV from anywhere using the WalTech app.

Can I control my Coleman Mach replacement from my phone?

Yes. Once you replace your Coleman Mach with WalTech, you get full remote control through the WalTech mobile app. Change temperature, switch modes, check zone temperatures, get alerts - all from your phone, from anywhere. Works over WiFi and cellular.
