Furrion Thermostat Wiring Guide

RS-485 communication-based system. Both single-zone and multi-zone Furrion thermostats use the same 4-wire setup.

Overview

Furrion thermostats - both single-zone and multi-zone - use the same wiring: 2 power wires and 2 RS-485 communication wires. RS-485 is an industrial communication protocol that allows the thermostat and control board to exchange data over a pair of twisted wires.

The WalTech Vision 2.0 has a built-in RS-485 transceiver, so you simply connect the four wires and configure your system type in the setup wizard.

Before you begin: Turn off all power to your RV HVAC system at the breaker or disconnect. Take a photo of your existing wiring before removing anything.

4-Wire Identification

Your Furrion thermostat has 4 wires coming from the wall. Here is what each wire does:

Label Wire Color Function
G Green Ground (-12V DC)
R Red +12V DC Power
B Blue RS-485 A (Communication)
P Purple RS-485 B (Communication)

Wire layout (right to left): Ground - Power - RS-485 A - RS-485 B

1 Identify Your Wiring

Before removing your old thermostat, take a clear photo of the wiring connections. This will be your reference if you need to double-check anything during installation.

Confirm you have exactly 4 wires: green, red, blue, and purple. The blue and purple wires are the RS-485 communication pair. It is important to connect these to the correct pins - swapping A and B will prevent communication with the control board.

2 Mount the WalTech Vision 2.0

Use the included mounting template to mark your screw holes. The WalTech Vision 2.0 uses a standard mounting plate that fits most existing thermostat locations. If your old Furrion thermostat used a different screw pattern, you may need to drill new holes.

Secure the mounting plate to the wall first, then route your wires through the opening before snapping the thermostat onto the plate.

3 Connect the Wires to WalTech

Connect each wire to the corresponding pin on the WalTech Vision 2.0:

WalTech Pin Wire Connection
Pin #8 Green wire Ground (-12V DC)
Pin #7 Red wire Power (+12V DC)
Pin A Blue wire RS-485 A (Communication)
Pin B Purple wire RS-485 B (Communication)

No jumper wire is needed for Furrion systems. These are communication-based systems, not relay-based - the WalTech communicates digitally with your Furrion control board over the RS-485 bus.

Stability tip: Connect a short jumper wire from Pin #8 (Ground) to Pin #16. This provides additional grounding stability and helps prevent intermittent communication issues.

4 Power On

Turn the power back on at the breaker or reconnect your RV power source. The WalTech Vision 2.0 should boot up and display the setup wizard within a few seconds. If the screen does not turn on, double-check your power and ground connections at Pin #7 and Pin #8.

5 Configure Your System

The setup wizard will ask you to select your thermostat brand and system type. Select "Furrion Single Zone" or "Furrion Multi Zone" depending on your setup.

Heat Staging Configuration

Stage Setting
Heat 1 Furnace
Heat 2 NA
Heat 3 NA
Furnace only: WalTech currently only supports Furrion systems with a furnace. Heat pump support for Furrion is coming soon in a future firmware update. Set Heat 1 to Furnace and leave Heat 2 and Heat 3 as NA.
Compatibility note: Not currently compatible with Furrion Variable speed HVAC systems. If you have a Furrion variable speed system, please contact our support team before purchasing.

Error Codes

Code Meaning What to Check
E1 Communication Loss Check RS-485 wires at Pin A and Pin B. Verify blue and purple wires are not swapped. Ensure connections are tight.
E2 Freeze sensor temp out of order Freeze protection sensor on the evaporator may be disconnected or faulty.
E3 Indoor sensor temp out of order Indoor temperature sensor on the control board may be disconnected.
E4 Low DC power Check your RV battery voltage and shore power connection. Voltage may be too low for the system to operate properly.
Troubleshooting E1: If you get a persistent E1 error after installation, try swapping the blue and purple wires at Pin A and Pin B. Some Furrion models have reversed RS-485 polarity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the WalTech Vision 2.0 support Furrion heat pumps?

Not yet. WalTech currently only supports Furrion systems with a furnace. Heat pump support for Furrion is coming soon in a future firmware update. You can still install the WalTech now and enable heat pump support later via an over-the-air update.

Is the wiring the same for Furrion single-zone and multi-zone?

Yes. Both Furrion single-zone and multi-zone systems use the same 4-wire setup: 2 power wires (ground and +12V DC) plus 2 RS-485 communication wires (A and B). The only difference is the system type you select during configuration.

I keep getting an E1 error after installation. What should I try?

First, check that all four wire connections are tight. Then try swapping the blue and purple wires at Pin A and Pin B - some Furrion models have reversed RS-485 polarity. Also make sure you have the jumper from Pin #8 to Pin #16 installed for grounding stability.
